18 April 2011To the Presiding MagistrateBurwood Local CourtRE: Character reference Samuel McGheeMy name is George Nazia and I am the owner of Interstate Trucks, Cabarita.
I am aware that Samuel McGhee was stopped by police on 27 March 2011 for exceeding the speed by more than 30km/h. Samuel has advised me that he was doing 94km/h in a 60km/h zone. I understand that Samuel has filed an appeal against the suspension of his licence.
I have known Samuel for the last 10 years as his employer. This offence is one I know he sincerely regrets. Samuel is a professional driver completing about 1,500 kilometres a week whilst driving interstate.
Samuel informs me that he has been driving for 35 years. During this time he has always strived to follow the road rules and prides himself on his good driving record.
I have always found Samuel to be very professional and a person of great integrity and honesty.
Samuel has expressed to me his great disappointment about committing the offence before the court. He understands the danger that speeding poses not only to himself but others on the road. This offence has not only affected Samuel personally but regretfully may also affect him professionally. Samuel is a full time driver, and relies on his income to support his family. If Samuel is suspended and unable to drive I will have to employ another driver. I do not have the financial capacity to also keep Samuel on during this time.
Samuel has expressed to me that he is willing to do anything possible to keep his licence. I ask that the court consider this reference, together with Samuel's good driving history.
