Who's who at NCAT
This is a picture of what a hearing may look like at the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).
1 Tribunal Member
This is the Tribunal Member at NCAT. The Tribunal Member hears the case and makes a decision. You should refer to the Tribunal Member as 'Ms' or 'Mr' and their surname. You may also refer to them as 'Madam' or 'Sir'.
| 5 Applicant
The applicant is the person who is applying to appeal the decision.

2 Registry officer
This person helps the Tribunal Member and/or records the proceedings.
There is usually no registry officer in an NCAT hearing.
| 6 Bar table
This is the table where you should sit and where your case is called.

3 Bench
This is where the Tribunal Member sits. You should not go up to the bench unless asked. If you need to give documents to the Tribunal Member, ask for permission first.
| 7 Witness box or stand
This is where a witness will sit if they have been summoned to give oral evidence, under oath.

4 Respondent
The respondent is the person who is defending or responding to your application to appeal the decision. This will be a lawyer representing Victims Services.
