To the Presiding Magistrate
Downing Centre Local Court
I am writing to tell the court how sorry I am for the offence of common assault, which I am pleading guilty to.
I have not stopped thinking about my behaviour since the night of the offence and am deeply ashamed that I assaulted my wife Jane in front of our children when I was intoxicated.
I was so embarrassed to be taken away from our home in a police car and to spend the night at the police station, but more than that, I am so ashamed of my behaviour.
I take full responsibility for my actions. This has also been a big wakeup call to me about my drinking problem, and although I don’t blame the alcohol for my actions, I have decided to get some professional help. I have started seeing a counsellor and have attended two appointments. So far they have been really helpful, and I have another appointment booked in next Tuesday.
I have apologised to Jane and our children. Moving forward want to be a better partner to Jane and be the best role model I can be for my children. I am lucky that Jane has forgiven me and given me another chance. Moving forward, I am committed to changing my behaviour so that I never come back to court again.
