Case study - Marley
Marley was driving her car down a crowded street on Friday night when she had an accident. She had slowed down to let a car on the side of the road finish pulling out of a parking spot when she was hit from behind by another car. The other driver drove away from the scene of the accident without exchanging details with Marley. Marley saw the registration number of the other car and reported the accident to the Police. Marley doesn't have comprehensive car insurance but she has a CTP green slip and her car is registered. Marley makes an access application to Transport for NSW to find out the other driver's details.

Dear Madam/Sir,
Access Application
This letter is an Access Application under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, for information held by Roads and Maritime Services.
I am seeking the name and address of the registered operator of a white Toyota Corolla with registration numebr GAR 000.
On 20 December 20xx, I was driving along Church Street, Parramatta NSW 2150. I slowed down to let a car on the side of the road finish pulling out of a parking spot when I felt a bump from behind. I got out of my car to inspect the damage and saw that a white Toyota Corolla had hit the rear bumper of my car causing a dent and marking it with white paint.
The driver failed to stop and exchange details. I called the Police Assistance Line later that day and reported the accident to them.
The driver of the car failed to keep a proper look out and is responsible for the damage to my car.
I want to make a claim against the registered operator or the driver of the white Toyota Corolla, but because the driver did not stop, I do not have either of their details. I do not have a lawyer and I will be handling the claim myself.
I request that you supply me with either a copy of the registration papers, or the name, address and phone number of the registered operator, of the white Toyota Corolla with registration number GAR 000. I enclose a cheque for $30.00 payable to Transport for NSW for the application fee.
Yours sincerely,
M. Lee
